ABOUT

I'm Erin (she/her/hers), and I'm a therapist with experience primarily focusing on trauma therapy, substance use, depression, and anxiety. Those areas, though, overlap with a wide array of differing mental health concerns and stage of life challenges. Due to this, I have also come to really enjoy working with faith transitions, body-image and self-confidence concerns, LGBTQIA+ and gender affirming, ADHD, domestic violence, couple's counseling, and sex-based trauma. I generally work with adults and young adults.

Overall, I have a very client-centered and relaxed approach to therapy, focusing on developing a comfortable connection and environment to support exploration of difficult topics and experiences. I love providing therapy, and my favorite moments are when a client is able to finally see a way forward and I get to watch them carve out a path towards the life they want to life.

I am an EMDR trained LCSW and therapist. For more information about EMDR and other modalities I use in treatment, please see below. I have 6 years of experience providing therapy, 9 years in the field, and 13 years as a therapy client myself. When I am not working, I enjoy reading, knitting, subversive cross-stitch, and watching spooky movies.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. The mechanism by which EMDR helps to process traumatic memories and unhealthy core beliefs is called bilateral stimulation. That might sound scary, but it’s really not. It’s simply a back and forth rhythmical pattern - which can take the form of eye movements, hand-held buzzer, or tapping on the arms or legs.

In a nutshell, while focusing on the image, feelings, body sensations and negative beliefs associated with a “stuck” memory or core belief and participating in bilateral stimulation at the same time, your brain can heal and effectively process the trauma.
For many clients, EMDR can yield positive results in less time than traditional talk therapy alone.

Other Modalities
I do not think therapy is a one-size-fits-all experience, and modalities and approaches will be determined in session and tailored to the client. The following is a brief and non-exhaustive list of some of the other modalities I often use to address treatment goals.

-
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
-
DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy)
